U.S. consumers' satisfaction with multi-room speakers 2017
Smart speakers
In 2014, Amazon launched the world’s first ever smart speaker Amazon Echo to its U.S. customer base. It was launched in the United Kingdom two years later and even though some people were skeptical at first about having a listening device from the world’s largest retailer at home, it didn’t stop smart devices from gaining access to American households.
The total number of smart speaker shipments in the United States increased by about 32 million from 2016 to 2019. Amazon Echo is currently the most popular smart speaker in the U.S among consumers aged 18 to 64, followed by Google Home and Apple HomePod. 53 million units of Amazon Echo were installed in the United States in 2019 which was almost 3 times more than the installed base of Google Home devices.
One thing which makes smart speakers easy to use is the fact that they are compatible with suitable voice assistants. Depending on the brand, consumers can use Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. All these voice assistants also make smart speakers a decent choice for children, some of whom use these devices to get help while doing their homework.
