The average disposable income of new mortgage borrowers in Sweden was highest among individuals between 30 and 50 years in 2022. Per month, the individuals in that age group earned over 56,000 Swedish kronor. That was about 4,000 Swedish kronor above the average for the country. In Sweden, about half of the households live in an owner-occupied home with a mortgage, making it one of the biggest mortgage markets in Europe. The country has the fifth-highest value of mortgages outstanding but ranks lower in terms of gross residential mortgage lending.
