Fish products import volume Thailand 2023, by type
In 2023, approximately 597.92 thousand metric tons of chilled and frozen tuna, including fish livers and eggs, were imported into Thailand. Chilled and frozen fish followed closely, with around 597.92 thousand metric tons of imports.
The importance of imports for the fish processing industry
That same year, domestic fish production was not high enough to meet the demand for consumption and processing in the kingdom. To make up for this, fish is imported for further processing and conversion into downstream goods that are sold at both home and foreign markets. Hence, the total import value of fish products in Thailand amounted to around 85.61 billion Thai baht that year.
Squid imports
Similar to fish products, domestic squid production in Thailand was not sufficient in 2023, which led to the second-highest value of squid products imports to Thailand in the last 12 years. Thailand recorded a total import volume of squid products of nearly 200 thousand metric tons. Chilled and frozen squids were by far the most popular types of squid products imported to Thailand, compared to a relatively small amount of processed and dried squid.
