Gross production value of barley in South Africa 2000-2019
As of 2019, the gross production value of barley in South Africa declined to approximately 1.04 billion South African Rands (about 63.5 million U.S. dollars). The amount declined after reaching a peak of roughly 1.45 billion Rands (nearly 86.7 million U.S. dollars) in the year before. Since 2000, the gross production value of barley followed an increasing trend, with several fluctuations. Within the period from 2008 to 2010, the value dropped by around 24 percent, due to a reduction in producer prices as well as production quantities. For the same reasons, the gross production value of barley also declined by 27.15 percent in 2017.
