Exploitation of victims of trafficking in persons in Africa 2020, by region
In 2020, the majority of detected victims of trafficking in Africa were women and girls. The most common forms of exploitation were sexual exploitation and forced labor. In Southern Africa, for instance, 43 percent of victims were exploited for forced labor, while 48 percent were victims of sexual exploitation. Moreover, sexual exploitation was less prevalent among detected victims of human trafficking in East Africa (13 percent) than victims of forced labor (80 percent).
