Share of direct and indirect costs of the logistics sector in India 2020
In 2020, around 40 percent of the total logistics cost in India were indirect costs, which included inventory carrying costs, theft, damages, and losses in transit. It was four times more than the average indirect costs of the logistics sector of developed countries. Road shared around 64 percent of the overall freight logistics. For freight transporting beyond 300 km, the railway's modal share decreased to around 32 percent. The total logistics cost took around 14 percent of the national GDP.
