Completed and proposed CCUS projects by capacity in China 2021
China had six completed large-scale CCUS projects as of 2021. The most established is the CNPC Jilin oilfield-adjacent site, which was completed in 2018. Its annual capture and storage capacity amounts to some 600,000 metric tons. Most projects are the result of the governments push for curtailing carbon emissions and as such built by state-owned enterprises. Among the largest CCUS sites currently under development are two further CNPC-owned projects in Daqing and Changqing, which are expected to have an annual capacity of three million metric tons and set to begin operation by 2030.
