According to a survey on environmental perceptions conducted in early 2022 in New Zealand, with 60 percent, the majority of respondents stated that the main cause of pressure on coastal waters and beaches was sewage and stormwater. 33 percent of respondents claimed that the dumping of solid waste also played a huge part in causing environmental damage. The third most influential cause was believed to be household waste and emissions.
