A survey conducted in Japan in December 2022 showed that 15.1 percent of people who were interested in VTubers watched more than seven hours of VTuber content per week. The word "VTuber" is a short form for "virtual YouTuber" and refers to video content creators that use computer-generated avatars. The term was coined by the Japanese VTuber Kizuna Ai and has also been used for similar content creators of other video platforms.
