Branch banking usage in France 2019-2023, by quarter
Branch banking usage decreased gradually between 2019 and 2023 among bank account holders in France. According to Statista's Consumer Insights, the share of bank account holders who processed banking affairs in person in a branch was 30 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023, eight percentage points lower than in the first half of 2019. In comparison, branch banking usage was significantly higher in the U.S. during the same period, where almost half of all respondents still processed banking matters in person in 2023. In-person banking in France declined in popularity mainly in 2020 and 2021, due to the spread of COVID-19.
