In the financial year 2022, Meesho was the leading e-commerce unicorn in India in terms of advertising expenditure, with an ad spend of nearly 26 billion Indian rupees. Flipkart was the second largest spender on advertising and marketing that year. The cumulative market spending of the leading 19 e-commerce startups in India amounted to well over 850 million U.S. dollars that year.
