Premature deaths related to air pollution in Serbia 2021, by pollutant
There were nearly 15,000 premature deaths in Serbia attributable to exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations above WHO AQ guidelines in 2021. PM2.5 can lead to many health issues, such as lung cancer, asthma, and strokes. Belgrade – Serbia's capital – was the fourth most polluted capital city in Europe in 2022.
