M/SUD spending by payer in the U.S. with and without ACA 2016
This statistic describes estimates for mental and substance abuse disorder spending by payer in the United States with or without Affordable Care Act effects in 2016. During this year, it is expected that out of pocket spending without ACA effects will be 22.9 billion U.S. dollars for mental health and substance abuse disorders. Since the 1980s, expenditure on mental health has increased but the slow in growth in recent years may be linked to closures of specialty hospitals.
