NSDUH respondents who attempted suicide in the past 12 months were asked if they had been treated medically as a result of a suicide attempt, and subsequently those answering “yes” were asked if they had stayed in the hospital overnight or longer because of a suicide attempt. Respondents with unknown suicide information were excluded.

Missing data for 2020 and 2021 are due to low precision and measurement issues.

Figures prior to 2021 were taken from previous reports.
