This statistic shows the monthly internal and external switching rates of electricity suppliers in the Great Britain (GB) from 2014 to 2019. It shows that external switching rates have increased from 1.13 percent in December 2014 to 1.74 percent five years later. All rates saw fluctuations.

The source notes that internal switching refers to a customer changing tariff, payment method or account management (online/offline) with their existing supplier. Internal tariff switching only includes tariff changes that, as a minimum, represent ‘active choices’. For example a customer switching by default from a dead tariff to a cheaper evergreen tariff may not reflect an active choice.
