Watermelon production volume Japan 2012-2021
In 2021, close to 320 thousand metric tons of watermelons were produced in Japan, an increase compared to around 311 thousand metric tons in the previous year. Figures steadily decreased over the past decade, with production volumes reaching as high as 370 thousand tons in 2012.
While various watermelons are cultivated in Japan, the best known products include square-shaped watermelons and densuke watermelons grown in Hokkaido, which are considered luxury commodities.
