EU ETS emissions by sector 2005-2023

Combustion plants were the biggest contributor to verified emissions covered by the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) in 2023, having emitted 605 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Emissions from fuel combustion, which mainly come from the power sector, accounted for roughly 60 percent EU ETS stationary installation emissions in 2023.

The EU ETS covers about 38 percent of total EU GHG emissions.
