Germany: low and intermediate nuclear waste stored

As of the beginning of 2023, the volume of low and intermediate radioactive waste stored in Germany amounted to approximately 204,000 cubic meters. More than half of this volume was stored in interim storage facilities distributed across the country. The new radioactive waste repository Konrad, in Lower Saxony, is projected to be operational by 2027. It will have a capacity of up to 303,000 cubic meters of low and intermediate radioactive waste.
Low and intermediate radioactive waste accounted for approximately 99 percent of the radioactive waste in Germany in 2023.
