Global annual transition technology investment needed in 1.5°C scenario 2050, by type

Global investments across all transition technologies will need to average 5.3 trillion U.S. dollars per year from 2023 to 2050 to remain on the pathway that limits global warming to 1.5°C. Annual investments of 1.4 trillion U.S. dollars will be required for power generation capacity, which includes technologies such as solar PV, wind power, and geothermal. Meanwhile, annual investment of 1.5 trillion U.S. dollars will be required for energy efficiency in buildings, industry, and transportation. In 2022, global investments in energy transition technologies exceeded one trillion U.S. dollars for the first time. As such, annual investments will need to roughly quadruple over the coming years.
