Payment card usage worldwide, by region 2022

Credit cards were used more often at POS or e-commerce in Latin America in late 2022 than in other parts of the world. This is according to a consumer survey held in August and September 2022, when respondents from 13 countries replied to a question on which payment method they had used at least five times in the past month. Consumers from the Americas replied far more on both types of payment cards than their counterparts from Europe or Asia-Pacific. This difference is reflected in a regional comparison of different e-commerce payment methods. Latin American online shopping, especially, relied on credit cards.
