Share of U.S. doctors by emotional exhaustion level 2021
According to this 2021 survey, emotional exhaustion, a clear manifestion of burnout, is common among American physicians. That year, 57.9 percent of surveyed doctors had a high emotional exhaustion score and a further 15 percent, an intermediate score. In other words, around 73 percent of physicians are somewhat emotionally exhausted. On the other hand, a fourth of responding physicians in the United States scored low on the emotional exhaustion scale.
